The Gambia

Just a quick note before my time runs out here at the internet cafe.  We have made it safely to Banjul after some whirlwind days.  We left late Monday night and flew to Dakar, Senegal, where we stayed overnight.  And then flew this morning to Banjul.  All the traveling has gone well, though we are so thankful to have the Spans and Brenda VanderSchuur lead the way.

We are all feeling well and excited that the conference is about to begin.  The setting is stunning, right on the ocean.  I will have better access to the internet this week, so I’ll try to post a little more often.  It’s been tough up to now.

We are thinking about our family and church family lots.  We hope you are all well and your prayers mean so much to us.  We’re a little apprehensive going into the first day of the retreat, so please pray that we build a good relationship with the folks here and that God does amazing things!

With love,

The Africa Team

  1. Hello Team from Africa,
It is very strange to be writing to all of you. You feel so far away. Its like your on the other side of the world or something. Thank you for updating us on all your journeys so far. You must feel a sense of relief knowing that you will be staying put for a while, (I think). Things are cool here at home, literally. We think of you and pray for all of you often, especially for continued strength and health. Give Julie an extra hug from us. Anyway, back to cooking supper, I won’t tell you what we’re having only because I don’t know yet. Love you all very much. God Bless. The van Staal’s

    ps. (Jacquie – Grade 4… all good! 🙂 )

  3. Well, let me try this again. You would think that with all the latest computer training that I have had, I would be able to send you a comment. Too bad, I had some good material in my last comment. Anyway, nice to hear from you. It is amazing to be able to follow your journey! You seem so far away…it almost feels like you’re on the other side of the world! You must feel some sort of relief knowing that you will be able to stay put for awhile? Be asured that we are thinking and praying for you often. Looking forward to your next update and we hope that Julie is feeling better. Continued strength and health and love you all very much. The van Staal’s.

  4. It sounds like a nice location for your retreat. I hope the preparation for it has gone well for you Kevin, and that you can minister to those attending in meaningful ways. As much as we are excited that all is going well, don’t get too comfortable there, as it’s a lot further then Burlington. Here all is quite well. Boys are gone to Karen and Cliff’s again for the week and the girls are sleeping at home. A good arrangement for this week. We go back to London on Friday and see what the plan is for the weekend and the following week. Forseeably, a weekend pass and then if all is well, discharge next week after a thorough assessment. that would be cool. Strength, courage, and enjoyment is our hope for you. Love gerald.

  5. Wow, just love reading the updates. Sounds like you all are being immersed in the culture…Awesome! We pray that you will be supported by the Lord as you continue to lead this conference. BLESSINGS! Roy, Janet, Julie, Kali, Jacquie and Kevin — continue to take in the sights, smells, tastes, and sounds of Africa. Love it!
